Although H.R. 743 has gained momentum (it currently has 99 House co-sponsors), the bill is stalled in the Judiciary Committee. Apparently, a small group of Republicans have said they won’t support the bill.

This is a list of Republican House Judiciary Committee members who have not yet signed on as co-sponsors to H.R. 743. If your Congressperson is on this list, please urge them to support the bill.

Press Releases for Key Federal Police & Public Safety Bills

Remembering Our Local Heroes Act (H.R. 5318). Establishes a federal grant program to fund community memorials honoring police officers, firefighters, and members of the U.S. military, either living or deceased.

Local Law Enforcement Protection Act (H.R. 5264). Would protect qualified immunity for state and local police officers.

Honoring Police Officer & K9 Service Act (H.R. 5885). Establishes a grant program to help offset the cost of veterinary care of retired federal, state, and local police dogs.

Improving Law Enforcement Officer Safety and Wellness Through Data Act. (S. 3522). Would expand on how the Federal government reports attacks on law enforcement officers. This can provide a better understanding of the factors involved in the rise of violence -including ambush-style attacks- being perpetrated on police officers.

Safe and Open Streets Act (H.R. 6926 / S. 3492). Would make it a federal crime to intentionally obstruct, or attempt to obstruct a public road, freeway, or highway. Penalties include fines and a maximum five-year term of imprisonment.

Holding Prosecutors Accountable Act (H.R. 6999). Would prohibit district and state attorney offices who fail to prosecute at least 67% of violent crime arrests, from receiving grants through the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program. Byrne Grants are administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance within the U.S. Department of Justice.

Housing for Heroes Act (H.R. 6863). would provide a greater number of law enforcement officers with a more affordable path to home ownership by easing restrictions on the Good Neighbor Next Door program.
