The ongoing demoralization of law enforcement has resulted in a nationwide police staffing crisis. There are now fewer officers available to prevent and solve crimes, as well as to answer calls - including those that are categorized as high priority. Police departments have had to reduce staffing for special crime units, and even abandon them.
There are also signs that police officers are hesitating to respond appropriately and use justified force - all because because they rightfully fear wrongful prosecution, harassment, or job loss.
Coupled with the proliferation of politicized district attorneys and policies that prioritize the welfare of offenders, this scenario has placed all of us at greater risk.
We need all hands on deck if we expect to change this trajectory.

About Me
I’m not a police officer and I don’t consider myself an expert on law enforcement by any means. I’m just a citizen who ran a grassroots group to support local cops at a time when they were (and still are) under attack.
We did more than talk. Here are some of our accomplishments:
Lobbied successfully for additional funding for the Madison Police Department. Not an easy feat considering the political structure of city government.
Passed a state law to benefit the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Memorial Fund (WLEM).
Hosted a special vigil to honor Wisconsin’s fallen heroes after the WLEM was vandalized. Wisconsin State Representative David Steffen and former Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel were two of the event’s speakers.
Held four separate annual appreciation parties to celebrate Madison police officers. These well-attended open-house events brought cops and members of the community together in a positive way.
Hosted a “We Support our Police” yard sign project which residents across the city displayed on their properties.
Maintained a website that educated citizens on the important role of police.
Pushed back against false narratives about police officers.
Hosted a War on Cops book event, which we presented to the Madison city council. Heather MacDonald personally autographed each copy, which we presented to the mayor and each alder.
Gave a host of interviews to local news stations and radio personalities.
Though I retired the group in 2019, I still care about police officers. I want to take the efforts & experiences from local advocacy, expand on them, and make them available on a wider scale.
