In a recent email blast, I had made this comment: Too many people talking, not nearly enough asking questions or paying attention.
After writing that, I did some introspective work. Am I listening enough, I wondered?
Listening skills have become obsolete, especially with the proliferation of social media. It so often feels as if we’re talking at each other instead of engaging in actual communication. It’s dehumanizing and makes us feel even more isolated and alone.
So tell me, what’s on your mind?
In an attempt to get to know my readers better (and BTW, welcome to my new subscribers!), I’m opening up the floor to you. So if there’s something you’d like to express, you’ve got my ear. If you don’t feel comfortable commenting below, you can always reach me at fortheblue@substack.com.
Before I hand over the podium
I’d like to share something that fills me with hope.
This is Representative John James, a patriot who embodies the meaning of what it means to be an American. His attitude is rare in a nation where claiming victimhood (this mindset transcends ethnicity and gender) has become the dominant theme.
We’re an imperfect nation, and yes, there are people with evil intent in our midst. It’s always been this way and always will be. There is no Camelot.
Understanding this motivates us to forge meaningful solutions and to strive for progress. Approaching life from a position where we perpetually see ourselves as injured parties and our country as irredeemable, however, will destroy us - as individuals and as a nation.
Though I have so much more to say on this topic, this post is about listening, not talking.
Wishing you all an amazing week ahead, and thank you for taking the time to read my work. : )
For the Blue is a solutions-based initiative. I’m just an American patriot asking questions. I don’t work with any political party and I answer to nobody. For me, the health of the nation, due process (including for police officers), the rule of law, and respect for individual liberties, will always transcend party affiliation. I welcome your thoughts, even if you disagree; though personal attacks will be ignored. You can reach me at fortheblue@substack.com.
