The melodrama and confrontations that now permeate our look-at-me culture are more like noise than genuine advocacy. At least to me. In fact, the louder and more inane the argument, the more likely I am to tune out. Have something important to say? Sorry, that message got drowned out along with the screaming, gesticulating, and posturing.
What does make a statement? Civility, facts, and thoughtful arguments. This is not just a hypothesis. I’ve seen this strategy work time and again.
So has Chris Hinkle, retired FBI special agent, who recently had this to say on X:
“I’ve attended public luncheons and other events where they speak. I’ve had some success in simply raising my hand and asking a question. I’ve also asked questions of them face to face. I don’t yell, use pejoratives, nor engage in “gotcha” questions. I civilly engage and if my question is not answered, I ask a follow up seeking clarification. They are more terrified if a reasonable, calm person asking questions which demonstrate education and knowledge on the issue.” —Chris Hinkle
Chris’s experiences have been my experiences.
It’s the strategy we’re using during National Police Week (May 11 through 17 this year) to help get key federal bills across the finish line.
Our dedicated group is scheduled to meet with key legislators in D.C., with thoughtful arguments and talking points in hand. In fact, I’m probably overprepared, but that’s OK. : )
Your Voice is Just as Important
All it takes, all we’re asking for, is that you make a phone call or send an email to your federal lawmakers, urging them to support key police bills.
If you do this, while acting with civility and facts in hand, you’ll be making an impression and accomplishing more than I think you may realize.
Every resource we’ve created is designed to help you communicate with confidence. Please use them, then share them.
Here they are . . .

Video by Henry Morris
Henry is a dedicated police advocate who founded Support Our Shields. He’s a coalition member who created this video specifically for Police Week.
It illustrates how rogue district attorneys are prosecuting police officers for doing their jobs in concert with the law and Constitution. This scenario has caused cops to second-guess themselves, which is a terrible precedent, especially in situations that require split-second decision-making skills.
During this National Police Week, we can use our calm and civil (yet strong, firm, and confident) collected voice to make a statement. This voice has the very real power to get critical federal bills passed this session. This, in turn, could very well create the type of meaningful and lasting change law enforcement needs right now.
Are you with us?
For the Blue is a solutions-based initiative. I’m just an American patriot asking questions. I don’t work with any political party and I answer to nobody. For me, the health of the nation, due process (including for police officers), the rule of law, and respect for individual liberties, will always transcend party affiliation. I welcome your thoughts, even if you disagree; though personal attacks will be ignored. You can reach me at fortheblue@substack.com.
