About the Event
We’re devoting National Police Week (May 11 through May 17) to lobby for key federal police and public safety bills.
Our team will be in D.C., meeting with top lawmakers throughout the week. We also need supporters from across the country to make calls, send emails, and if possible, schedule meetings with their federal legislators.
Note: You can start calling your lawmakers now if preferred.
We want to flood the offices of federal lawmakers’ offices with phone calls and emails, urging them to support these bills.
The event was organized by a coalition of organizations and individuals who care deeply about police officers, law and order, and the future of our country.
Our members include:
Cori Huston, public safety advocate
4 Ways to Participate
1. Send an Email Using Our Form
Visit our dedicated National Police Week page, go to Email Your Legislators About Key Law Enforcement Bills, then click Send Email.
Note: You’ll need to find and enter your lawmaker’s email address, which can be tricky since many now use a dedicated form.
If you’re still having difficulty finding your lawmakers’ email addresses, please contact me and I will search for you.
2. Send Your Own Email or Letter
If you’d prefer to send your own email or letter, feel free to use our form letters as templates. Although we recommend customizing the letters to incorporate your own words, you can send them as they are.
The template letter for your U.S. senators is here.
The template letter for your U.S. House member is here.
3. Make a Phone Call
Feel free to reference the Script and Key Bills sections below.
4. Meet With Your Federal Representatives in Person
If you can’t make it to D.C., consider making an appointment to meet with federal lawmakers in your hometown. Some legislators offer mobile office hours, so you can speak with your elected official or their staff members without having to leave home.
Feel free to reference the Script and Key Bills sections below.
Please let me know if you need help setting up an appointment with your elected officials!
Key Bills We’re Focused on for Police Week: Abbreviated Version
While many solid law enforcement bills have been introduced this session, our primary focus for National Police Week is on the following.
Please visit this page for a deep dive on these bills.
Please Help Spread the Word!
The more of us who contact our lawmakers, the better chance we’ll have at achieving success.
In addition to contacting your own lawmakers, would you please help by telling others about this event and spreading the word via your social media and private networks? Here are some ideas for sharing.
Share the Speak Out for Law Enforcement flyer (above), this post, or the link to our dedicated Police Week page.
Snap a picture of yourself (and your group if others attend) meeting with your legislator then post it on social media.
Let people know why you support police officers. Then encourage them to contact their legislators.
If your legislators have sponsored or co-sponsored any the above bills (check the linked congressional pages for that information, on this page), thank and tag them on social media.
If you have any questions after reading this, please reach out. My team and I are here to help!
The climate at the federal level is optimal for getting solid bills passed this legislative session. This is our moment. Let’s get this done!
Thanks for reading and for supporting the men and women of law enforcement.
For the Blue is a solutions-based initiative. I’m just an American patriot asking questions. I don’t work with any political party and I answer to nobody. For me, the health of the nation, due process (including for police officers), the rule of law, and respect for individual liberties, will always transcend party affiliation. I welcome your thoughts, even if you disagree; though personal attacks will be ignored. You can reach me at fortheblue@substack.com.
