This may not be news to you, but most of us, per Gallup, are dissatisfied with the course our country is on. I’ll go one further: We're a nation in deep crisis.
Great American cities are descending into freefall before our eyes. Violent crime has increased. Fentanyl seizures have risen (by 275% in just one Florida county). Career criminals feel little-to-no fear of being held accountable - they know law enforcement has been neutered and policies set in place that enable their behavior. Adding salt to an open wound, our justice system is being subverted to punish police officers for lawfully doing their jobs. It also has its eye set on law-abiding citizens whose only crime is acting in self-defense.
This is why the mid-terms are so critical. Though one election won't cure what ails us, it is however, potentially a start in the right direction. And we’ve got to start somewhere, anywhere.
We need to elect politicians who genuinely care about police officers & the public they serve. By genuine, I’m referring to public servants who once elected, will do more than pay lip service to public safety.
We need men and women in office who will stand tall for police officers when they’re being used as political pawns; who will sponsor legislation to discourage ambushes on cops; and who will refuse to tolerate riots and mayhem, regardless of the demonstrators’ ideologies.
It’s why I believe it’s essential to survey politicians before they’re elected.
A Focus on Other States in the Union
Now that I’ve published results from Wisconsin candidates and feel pretty comfortable with the process, I’m working on other states in the union.
Here’s where I’m currently at in the process:
I’ve sent invitations to mid-term candidates in the following swing states, asking that they complete my policing questionnaire:
Georgia
Ohio
North Carolina
Pennsylvania
Nevada
I’ll start work on the other swing states -New Hampshire, Florida, and Arizona- after their primaries. Additionally, several people who follow me have asked that I work on states like Illinois and Maryland; I’d like to honor those requests if possible.
Just a few hours after sending the invitations, I’ve already received confirmations from several candidates in Ohio, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania. We’re off to a good start!
How You Can Help
If you have a few moments to spare, I could use help with the following.
Tracking down email addresses for candidates whose contact information is not readily available. Unlike with the Wisconsin election questionnaire, I’m only focusing on gubernatorial races and those running in the U.S. House & Senate. Focusing on state races for numerous states is just too time-intensive for one person.
Following up with candidates to see if they received the initial query. I will provide lists and scripts.
Spreading the word about this project. The more voters who view the results, the more effective it will be. Please share this link with your friends and family, on social media, or with anyone who cares about police officers and maintaining our American way of life. I’m not looking to generate traffic for self-interest; this is a completely revenue-free site and initiative.
It’s so easy to feel overwhelmed and powerless these days, isn’t it? Waiting for someone to save us as our nation falters, however, isn’t IMO, a winning approach.
While I don’t pretend to think a policing questionnaire will solve all our problems, I do believe it has the potential to bring about positive results. If you’d like to help make a difference for police officers (and by extension, all of us), please reach me at fortheblue@substack.com. No pressures if you can’t.
For the Blue is a solutions-based initiative. I’m just an American patriot asking questions. I don’t work with any political party and I answer to nobody. For me, the health of the nation, due process (including for police officers), the rule of law, and respect for individual liberties, will always transcend party affiliation. I welcome your thoughts, even if you disagree; though personal attacks will be ignored. You can reach me at fortheblue@substack.com.
