Crime is No Longer Confined: You and I ARE at Risk
Plus a simple way you can help make a difference
It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking crime will never touch our lives or that we’ll never need the police. Until, of course, the unimaginable happens and our lives have forever been altered.
This past weekend, a young woman was brutalized in the campus area of the city where I live. What she endured can only be described as an act of savagery.
Per Fox Digital,
“A friend of the victim told Milwaukee's WISN-TV that she was found with a broken jaw and had been strangled, beaten and sexually assaulted. An unnamed neighbor said the victim had been abducted off the sidewalk and dragged between two houses.”
Considering that this is a major crime, you’d think there would be more fuss. Yet the story has received relatively little local coverage. Perhaps a portion of the onus rests with the command structure at both the Madison Police Department and UW-Madison Police Department?
“Neither campus nor city police have responded to inquiries from Fox News Digital.”
Yet there also haven’t been emotional pleas from local elected officials, save for the obligatory public safety announcements. Police command officers haven’t knelt for this crime victim, or any others. There have been no demonstrations or vigils or calls for accountability.
Had this been an officer-involved incident, you can bet the story would be plastered on the pages and screens of every news outlet. Police apologists would make sure their vitriol was made known. And cries for justice (facts be damned) would have ensued.
In New York City this past week, a 60-year-old woman was beaten on a New York City subway. And like the young victim from Madison, coverage on this story has been anemic.
The Austin, Texas police department is so short-staffed and so riddled with crime, that it has urged its residents to call the non-emergency number if they’ve been robbed. How many people, outside of those who need police services in Austin are even aware of this?
And the pleas of Oakland, California residents are going unheard.
“Eleven-year-old girls are being pimped in the streets. Houses are being invaded. Elderly women are being carjacked in broad daylight.
Unless you lived here yourself, you wouldn't believe it.
9-1-1 calls go unanswered. When they're picked up, callers are often put on hold for half an hour or longer. By that time, they may already be dead.
There are drag races through the streets, gunfights and innocent children are getting caught in the crossfire.
Criminals are getting away with murder because there's hardly any police to stop them, and our so-called leaders don't seem to care.
I've had enough.
My community is begging for help, but no one is listening.”
These are not outliers, either. Crime statistics, can, in fact, be misleading, and in some cases they’re being manipulated. Based on the research I’ve done thus far and the people I’ve spoken to, I firmly believe that the situation is worse than many of us may think. (This is a topic of focus for a future presentation I’m working on for Independent Women’s Network . . . more on that to come later.)
But hey, Crime is down, right? At least that’s what politicians, politicized police chiefs, and biased news media would like us to believe.
Shame on them and anyone who has contributed to the war on police and this public safety crisis. While perpetrators, are, of course, ultimately responsible for their own bad acts, regressive policies have made it that much easier for them to sew chaos. The irksome part is that the people responsible for these policies are either unaware of their impact or don’t care.
We all deserve better than this.
We’ve Been Betrayed and Abandoned
Perhaps I’ll lose a few subscribers by saying this, but here goes.
Maybe your jurisdiction is different, but given their role in perpetrating the war on police and decriminalizing crime, there is no way, in good conscience, that I could currently vote for any Democrat candidate currently appearing on my ballot.
That said, Republicans have been a huge disappointment when it comes to supporting our guardians and keeping the public safe.
I wrote as much in a recent op-ed, which was published this morning in the DC Journal. Their parent publication (Inside Sources), offers these articles for syndication, so it has a good chance of being picked up by other national newspapers.
“Democratic policies, proposals and actions have been the catalyst for demoralizing our nation’s guardians, most of whom approach their work with honor and dignity. Attempts to eradicate qualified immunity, the creation of false narratives and the zealous prosecution of police officers have taken an emotional toll. As a result, police officers have concluded that this profession is no longer worth the risks.
While the left may have set this in motion, the Republican response has been anemic. It’s not just that Republicans frequently miss opportunities to speak out when officers are unfairly under fire. Their legislative efforts have also been lackluster.
If passed, the Protect & Serve Act of 2023 would create a new federal crime category and minimal sentence for knowingly assaulting a police officer and causing severe bodily harm. At a time when ambush-style attacks on law enforcement have been on the rise, this bill would serve as a deterrent and give police officers a much-needed show of support.”
