ACTION ALERT! Protect & Serve Act Is Finally Moving Through. Please Make a Call Today.
Now is the time to act!
Finally! There’s been movement on the Protect & Serve Act (H.R. 743). The Judiciary Committee hearing is scheduled for tomorrow and the mark-up session (where Committee members can make edits to the bill) is on Wednesday.
I literally received notice about this a couple hours ago. A day before the hearing. This is typical modus operandi of congressional hearings, and IMO it’s a practice that needs to change. Most Americans can’t drop everything at a moment’s notice.
Given that I don’t live in D.C. it’s not feasible for me to get there in time to give testimony, if indeed it’s an open hearing. Nobody I called seems to know. And the feds don’t accept written testimony.
What we can all do now is to call our members of Congress, urging them to co-sponsor H.R. 743. You can of course, use FOP’s form, but given the timing, a call would be best. It’s especially important if your congressperson is a member of the Republican House Judiciary Committee.
This is the current status of where House Republican Judiciary Committee members stand on co-sponsorship of H.R. 743.
Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-04)
Darrell Issa (CA-48) is a co-sponsor.
Ken Buck (CO-04)
Matt Gaetz (FL-01)
Andy Biggs (AZ-05)
Tom McClintock (CA-05)
Tom Tiffany (WI-07) is a co-sponsor.
Thomas Massie (KY-04)
Chip Roy (TX-21)
Dan Bishop (NC-08)
Victoria Spartz (IN-05) is a co-sponsor.
Scott Fitzgerald (WI-05) is a co-sponsor.
Cliff Bentz (OR-02)
Ben Cline (VA-06)
Kelly Armstrong (ND-At large) is a co-sponsor.
Lance Gooden (TX-05) is a co-sponsor.
Jefferson Van Drew (NJ-02) is a co-sponsor.
Barry Moore (AL-02)
Troy Nehls (TX-22) is a co-sponsor.
Russell Fry (SC-07) is a co-sponsor.
Harriet Hageman (WY-At large)
Wesley Hunt (TX-38) is a co-sponsor.
Kevin Kiley (CA-03) is a co-sponsor.
Laurel Lee (FL-15) is a co-sponsor.
Nathaniel Moran (TX-01) is a co-sponsor.
If you haven’t contacted your congressperson yet, now is the time to do it. This bill is one of the most powerful tools we have to stop the violence being perpetrated on police officers.
If you have already called or written, thank you! It’s because you took the time that this bill is finally making its way through the process.
Best. : )
For the Blue is a solutions-based initiative. I’m just an American patriot asking questions. I don’t work with any political party and I answer to nobody. For me, the health of the nation, due process (including for police officers), the rule of law, and respect for individual liberties, will always transcend party affiliation.
